Brodhead FD covers roughly 65 square miles of north western Rockcastle County. We provide Fire, Rescue and First Responder (as requested) EMS services to this area.

Why do I see BFD trucks out driving around?
Our fire trucks handle and drive nothing like the vehicles our volunteers drive each day. We at BFD in the spirt of safety encourage our apparatus driver to drive out truck so that in an emergency they are more comfortable and safer drivers. Also while driving apparatus the occupants are required by policy to have all needed equipment for response with them. BFD Members also often attend trainings not at BFD and community events. We take apparatus to these events so that a staffed apparatus is ready to respond to any call we may receive.
Why is BFD always responding to fires outside of the BFD area
In Rockcastle County on ALL reported structure fires the closest TWO fire departments respond. Additional departments are added to the call as needed.
What does BFD charge for a response?
BFD charges no one for our services we do contract with a cost recovery company to recover our expense from insurance companies on certain fire and hazardous materials calls we respond too.
How much does a BFD Firefighers make?
ALL BFD firefighters are 100% volunteer and recive no compensation for runs, trainng, meetings, ect.
How do I join BFD and what does it cost?
To join the BFD tradition simply fill out an application and bring it to any of our regular business meetings. Those meeting dates can be found on the "calendar" tab of this web page. There is no cost to join BFD and all needed equipment and training is provided free of charge!
